In short
- There is no single best tool. The right pick depends on how many prompts you track, how many AI tools you need, whether you report to clients, and what you already pay for.
- Otterly.AI is the cheapest way in, Semrush and Ahrefs make sense inside an SEO suite you already use, Profound targets enterprises, and Peec, AthenaHQ, Scrunch and Surfer sit between.
- Slynnk includes six AI tools in every plan from $69 a month and shows a likely range and a real-change verdict on every number. It has no API yet.
AI visibility tools ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other assistants the questions your buyers ask, then report how often your brand is named, who is named instead and which sites the answers cite. They differ in how many tools they cover, how many prompts a plan holds, what they cost once add-ons are counted, and how honestly they show that an AI answer is a noisy measurement.

Pick by situation
- Pick Otterly.AI if you want to find out whether AI mentions you at all, for the least money, and can live with 15 prompts to start.
- Pick Peec AI if you want a focused dashboard with unlimited seats and an established agency programme, and three AI models are enough.
- Pick Semrush if your SEO and reporting already live in Semrush and a 25-prompt toolkit covers your needs.
- Pick Ahrefs Brand Radar if you live in Ahrefs and want a broad prompt index beside backlink and keyword data.
- Pick Surfer if you write and optimise content in Surfer and want AI tracking in the same product.
- Pick AthenaHQ if you want the widest model coverage in one credit-based plan.
- Pick Scrunch if you want large prompt allowances and a demo-led onboarding.
- Pick Profound if you are a large brand that needs SSO, security certifications and a managed relationship.
- Pick Slynnk if you report numbers to a client or a boss and need each one to show its sample size, a likely range and whether a change is real, with every one of six AI tools in the entry plan from $69 a month, white-label reports in agency plans and unlimited seats.
Two more worth knowing
Rankscale is an AI visibility tracker with a white-label tier, an API and MCP. SE Visible is SE Ranking's AI visibility product, useful if you already use SE Ranking. We have not reviewed either in full; check their own pricing pages, which change often.
What to compare before you pick
- Cost per answer, not per prompt. Prompts times AI tools times days is what you pay for. A cheap plan with three tools buys fewer answers per dollar than it looks.
- Which tools are in the base plan. Some charge extra for Gemini, AI Mode or Claude. Count the ones your buyers use.
- Whether numbers show their uncertainty. AI answers change from run to run, so a percentage without a sample size and a range invites a wrong conclusion.
- Whether the answers come from the product people use. An API can answer differently from the consumer surface.
- What it does after the report. Some tools stop at monitoring; others suggest what to change.
Why not just ask ChatGPT myself?
You can, and for one question a few tries is a fair start. It stops working because your ChatGPT is not your buyer's: it is shaped by your history, memory and location, and the same question gives a different list each time. We ask without anyone's history, from the country you pick, many times and every day, across every AI tool, then show how often you are named, which sites AI trusts and what to fix first.
The long version is in why you cannot just ask ChatGPT. To see your own answers, the free scan asks ChatGPT and Google AI your question several times and shows what each said.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI visibility tool?
It depends on your situation. Otterly.AI is the cheapest to start, Semrush and Ahrefs fit teams that already use them, Profound targets enterprises, and Slynnk is built for reporting numbers with their uncertainty shown.
What is the cheapest AI visibility tool?
Otterly.AI lists a $29 a month Lite plan with 15 prompts. Ahrefs Custom Prompts is free on paid Ahrefs plans from Lite up, with a small prompt limit.
Do I need an AI visibility tool at all?
For a single question, asking an AI tool a few times is a fair start, and our free scan automates that. A tool earns its price when you track many questions on many AI tools every day and need to show a trend.
Which tool is best for agencies?
Look for white-label reports, client links, a client count that fits your roster and seats that do not cost extra. Peec AI and Slynnk both have agency plans; compare them on your own client numbers.
